This is a good place to start if you're new to my work: quirky aliens and humans blended with chaos theory, cosmic extrapolations, and a healthy sense of wonder. These novels are inspired by chaos theory -- which I know just enough about to be dangerous.
These books should be read in order, for best effect. They are a continuing story. However, each novel brings closure to its own section of the larger story.
Star-faring science fiction with resonances of mythic fantasy. Here, star pilots achieve the wonder of space travel by using their creative, artistic imaginations to steer a course. I poured into these books all the wonder, amazement, and desire to travel in space that caught my imagination when I first started devouring the science fiction years ago.
My newest novel, ETERNITY'S END, is set in the Star Rigger Universe. In general, with the exception of the two dragon novels, you can read these books in any order.
To the casual reader, these novels are set in an entirely separate universe from any of my others. However, the astute reader will notice the appearance of a character from these novels at the very end of the third book of THE CHAOS CHRONICLES. I leave you to draw your own conclusions.
Note that although these two books are novel-and-sequel, they are very different kinds of books. The first is a hard-driving, hard-SF novel with lots of science and hard-edged action -- however, with philosophical overtones. The second, while suspenseful, has as its protagonist an eight-year-old girl, and we see the life of a starship (in trouble) through her eyes. Oh, and through the eyes of the robot, Jeaves.
Though these novels are not part of any of my multibook universes, they are nevertheless two books I am extremely proud of. They are long, complex tales of first contact, and they ask important questions about the nature of humanity (and the nature of artificial intelligence, as well).
This is really a young adult novel, though by the time it was published it was repackaged by the publisher as a straight adult novel, for marketing reasons. It was based on a background and outline developed by Roger Zelazny, which was then reworked somewhat at my hands and the hands of Tom Wylde, the author of the second and third novels of the series. I undertook it as a lark -- and I had a great time with it!
